Cruises from Venice FAQ’s

As a tourist, do I have to pay to enter Venice?

Yes! As of 25 April 2024, visitors entering Venice between 8:30 -16:00 daily are required to pay €5 before entering. Travellers going to or from the Stazione Marittima for embarkation or disembarkation are exempt from fees, provided they refrain from entering the Ancient City. Please ensure to check with your cruise line if you need to pay an additional fee or if you are exempt.

The updated payment process mandates visitors to acquire a QR code demonstrating payment or exemption. If guests need to pay the access fee, they should obtain their QR code in advance by visiting the Venice Access Fee website and following the instructions. Although there are no physical entry barriers, local police may request guests to present their QR code at any point. Failure to comply may incur fines ranging from €50 to €300.

How do I get from Venice Airport to the Cruise Ship Terminal?

To get to the Cruise Ship Terminal from the airport, you can:

  • Organise a transfer or bus shuttle with the cruise line
  • Take a Water Taxi (Fastest, but most expensive)
  • Grab a Land Taxi
  • Take a Bus Shuttle

How far is Venice from the Cruise Ship Terminal?

The Cruise Ship Terminal that can hold large ships is located right in the middle of Venice, essentially allowing you to almost immediately explore the city from the ship. To properly tour the city, we highly recommend hiring or booking in advance a Water Taxi, removing any additional stress carrying around any luggage or wasting time in traffic.

When is the best time to go on a cruise from Venice?

While summer months such as July and August are the most popular amongst tourists, going in spring (May – June) or fall (September – October) grants you fewer crowds whilst still enjoying warm and comfortable weather. While still busy, going in these months will ensure you won’t spend most of your time stuck in lines or with little space.
